Artasty Interviews

Interview with Miss Bugs

What's the story behind your name, Miss Bugs?

No big story.... it just came about. There's two of us Miss and Bugs, Girl and Boy.

Interview with Miss Bugs

What's your background?

Boy - Born in 1979 and grew up in Bristol - moved to London then moved round London.
Been making pictures of some sort for as long as I can remember.

Girl - Born in 1979, grow up in Pencoed (Wales) - Moved to Portishead then Bristol then London, have been organising people and keeping things tidy as long as I can remember;-).

Interview with Miss Bugs

How would you define your work?

Images that tell a story or reflect an idea or belief... that is not always our own
story or belief.

How do you explain the use of super heroes and famous cartoon characters in art in general and in your work more precisely ?

They are such strong iconic figures, each with a set of values good and bad, they send an immediate
message making them powerful images to play with.

We've decided to stop using super heros, well definitely for the time being... things become too easy and
when that happens, you stop and move on.

Interview with Miss Bugs

Do you use comic characters because of a passion you have or is it just a way to criticize some pop icons and their common meanings?

As a kid, at the age of 6, I loved Superman. I spent most of my time in a pair of blue pajamas
with my red speedos on the outside, red sheet tied round my neck with a yellow 'S' Mum had stitched on the
front. I looked quite the boy.... I still love Superman 1,2 and 3 .... But can look at superhero's in a
different light now... Things are generally simpler when you're 6 running around in your superman outfit!

Interview with Miss Bugs

How important is to put your work in the street?

Just good to let others see it!

Do you think being a girl helped you in your work and in your art?

Boy - I can't answer that.
Girl - We work together on somethings but he is the creative force behind the work. I bring other things
to the table. I've never thought about whether being a girl has helped me or not! It definitely makes
me who i am ;-)

Interview with Miss Bugs

Do you have contacts or paint with other girls?

Girl - No we just like to work together.
Boy - I would like to paint other girls!

What's coming up in 2008 for MB?

1st I'm going to pick up a couch we won on ebay - then spend sometime siting in it.

Continue producing new work for the 1st Solo Show in Brighton Ink_d Gallery in June (working title 'State of Art')...
